On Saturday 13th June we replaced two of our windows – the windows in the house aren’t really in that bad of a state, however the two top floor windows at the front didn’t close properly and we thought it a bit risky to leave them and the noise made it harder to sleep at night. There was, as we expected, a problem with replacing the windows; once the large plastic surround was taken out, we discovered why it had been there. Now all around our windows is a large opening into the cavity which we are going to board up and plaster and hopefully install some nice wooden sills.

As well as doing the windows, as it’s the summer and the weather has drastically improved in the last couple of weeks, I’ve been spending lots of time thinking about the garden. I wouldn’t call myself a keen gardener but I do appreciate pretty and (more importantly) useful plants.  At the moment there’s a couple of nice rose bushes that will probably survive the war I will be waging on the rest of the garden. Also I’ve been looking after my Cocker Spaniel this week, who usually lives with my parents. Whilst taking her out for walks I’ve been admiring the local wild flowers and taking inspiration from the neighbouring gardens. In particular I spotted  a very pretty small pale blue flower which I identified in our flower book as being ‘Love-in-a-mist’ which I plan to adorn our garden with. Today we spotted lots of Sweet Briar and Dog Rose locally. I’ve already got some mixed wild-flower seeds to sow which I purchased in order to attract some bees. We have some regular visitors to our garden already, a couple of blue tits have been flying in every 10 minutes or so and stocking up on food. I had a practise on my partner’s camera at getting a good photo but I may have to persuade him to take them for me next time.
