On 11th May 2015, I officially became a homeowner for the first time, which sounds rather exciting. In my head I had a lot of things planned for this new house. And I had plenty of time to think about it, seeing as the process took 5 months from putting our final offer on the house, but I’ve had to adapt some of my plans and put the rest on hold.
My partner and I had two viewings of the house before we decided that we definitely wanted it, we even had “code phrases” to say when looking around the house which meant different things so we knew what we were thinking without the estate agent having the same insight into our thoughts. ‘Well…that’s unique’ meant that we didn’t want to put an offer on the house. Even though on the second viewing my partner had a checklist of things to make sure the house wasn’t in a state of disrepair, it seems we managed to overlook more than we hoped. This just means that we’ve had to prioritise some jobs that we thought we could mange without for a while.
One of our big plans was a two story extension out the back, but after we found sewage leaking into our garden and were told that the electrics are unsafe, we’ve decided that these are more essential. We also want to convert the attic eventually but we are in a state of disagreement about what should be up there, I would quite like to turn it into a large bedroom with possible en suite and my partner wants it to be his studio.
I thought that starting a blog to document the changes to our house and some of my ideas would make for interesting reading in the future – when hopefully most of these changes have been completed.
